Hey everyone,

I'thousand new hither. Currently, I ain a New 2DS XL, which has a scissure near the hinge and by and large poor build quality.

I'one thousand looking to purchase a New 3DS/40, but on Ebay, the prices are ridiculous. If I purchase a Japanese model, the toll is much more reasonable. Still, is it worth the hassle to softmod it?

I can't speak Japanese at all, so I'thou worried about connecting to the eShop and getting Pokemon Picross. Additionally, volition Luma auto-boot, and then I don't accept to get through the normal 3DS card, which will be in Japanese?

Thank you.

its definetly worth it, particularly now that the eshop will be removed either way. You tin can easily mod information technology and change the language to english and add games to it without dealing with the eshop

Wow you weren't lying, Japanese 3DS prices are
I never heard of bug between regions for 3DS hacking. Likewise, face plates!

Nice!

On another post, I saw someone advising someone else with a Japanese 3DS to "NEVER CONNECT IT TO THE INTERNET." Why is this? I'll need to connect it upwards to WiFi in order to download Pokemon Picross, correct? Is that person's advice outdated?

EDIT: Also, I heard that I shouldn't modify the region. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this? I simply don't want Japanese menus. If I can autoboot into Luma in English, that'd be great. Does that require a region change?

Likewise, thank you for helping. I don't accept any hacking experience likewise DSi Retentiveness Pit hacks (which, past the way, is ridiculously piece of cake, go do it now if you oasis't).

Thanks! Also, do you retrieve that the 3ds'southward build quality is much better than the 2ds twoscore'south? Likewise, I wear glasses, so will the 3d work well? Thank you.

Luma3DS does not replace the abode carte du jour. It autoboots, just the betoken is to enable patches (east.thou. remove region checking).

eShop access shouldn't be as well difficult to setup; you can use a smartphone and Google Translate's photographic camera translation feature. If the information is too complicated to write or interpret then you can follow unSAFE_MODE instead, though either manner you're going to have to exercise some menu translating to connect the device to the Internet.

My assumption for the never connect it to the Cyberspace thing is due to old knowledge that said that New3DSes that connect to eShop will non be able to switch eShop region. The more nuanced wisdom right now is that this is due Yi pre-associated titles, though I'thou non sure if that is something that happens at the factory or at Cyberspace connectedness. Either style, while yous tin avoid eShop by post-obit an alternating Seedminer method, you volition likely detect it difficult to avoid connecting to the Net birthday (Seedminer can be performed without an Internet connection merely requires a reasonably powerful GPU).

Recommendations are fabricated against region changing due to the eShop breaking every bit mentioned in a higher place. eShop contains updates, so you lot would take to sideload any and all eShop updates. That being said, y'all would exist hosed either way as JPN eShop only contains updates for JPN titles and region changing would likely not brand United states/EUR eShop accessible.

If you don't want Japanese menus, your only option is a region change. Some weird locale stuff might nevertheless think you're on a JPN console, but near everything else will be in English. Go along in listen that whether yous region modify or non, games with English language in them tin can brandish in English (though you lot may need to switch the locale for that specific title and enable game patching, or it may display in Japanese or not kick entirely).

The N3DS/LL build quality is generally said to exist meliorate than that of the N2DSLL. Shouldn't fall apart in your easily though.

3D works fine with spectacles; it just relies on both eyes working fine.

Wow! Thanks for all the info. I don't really care virtually online play so I guess connecting it to the internet should be fine. As well, initial setup in Japanese is doable, every bit long as I don't take to constantly exercise stuff in the normal menu.

Thanks for the help everyone, tomorrow I'm gonna hack my 2DS Forty, I hope I don't brick it.

I bought a Japanese LL for this precise reason! I employ the Google app and the photographic camera on my phone to translate to English in real time although I've been using information technology less and less as I become more familiar with Japanese. Google translate definitely helped me navigate through the Luma install merely if you're familiar enough with the buttons and navigation on a regular 3DS menu you might exist able to muddle through. locating the right Picross to download would accept been a hurting without a translator.

The biggest issue with converting Regions is that y'all will non be able to access the eShop any More, only Ninty might accept made this a not-issue with The announcement that they are discontinuing 3DS eshop. So that makes this less of a problem.

Alright, thanks. So just to clarify, I can change the language of Luma and, because it autoboots, rarely have to collaborate with the Japanese menu, correct? I'd rather not mess with the region because I accept petty to no experience hacking consoles.

Alright, cheers. So just to clarify, I can change the language of Luma and, considering it autoboots, rarely have to interact with the Japanese card, correct? I'd rather non mess with the region because I accept little to no experience hacking consoles.

I don't desire to paint too rosy a moving picture for you. Without hacking the region there will all the same be quite a flake of Japanese throughout the menus and some games will selection this up likewise. It was more than then than I expected when I bought mine in December but hither in February I've memorized a lot of the icons, know where a lot of things are by position (even though it has foreign labels) and am at present fluent in Japanese. Ok, maybe non that terminal one, simply I do recognize a few words and a handful of letters due to immersion.

An instance…

Here is a snapshot of my screen right now:

Hither is the same screen through the Google App (translate part):

some games will pick this up every bit well
What do you lot mean by this? If I load a United states of america region game backup that has Japanese support, will it exist in Japanese until I set it? What's an instance of this?

Thank you for clarifying about the language, it seems not to exist much of an issue for you, then I won't carp with changing the region.

I actually appreciate all your assist, thanks for doing this.

I really capeesh all your help, thank you for doing this.

Im not 100% certain why this happens.

I have only installed U.s. region CIAs only as an example the Pokemon games and even the Pushmo game I was just playing have Japanese Titles. Not a huge bargain and you start to recognize them by their Japanese championship.

The region is all changed to US ENG using Luma Locale Region Car Setter or Locale Switcher (I tried both).

In game text is all changed to English as expected.

What is this locale switcher? Is it necessary? What exactly does it do?

Alright, thanks for all your assist. I merely modded my N2DSXL and so I'll use information technology for at present until an result where I tin treat myself with a nicer N3DSXL. Thanks!

i hope I didn't scare you lot off. The Japanese consoles are a really skilful deal and the games play perfectly. I like the look of the "strange" panel. The amount of fourth dimension I spend struggling with the linguistic communication is extremely minimal these days Now that I'm familiar. I have a unique/rare/tough looking 3DS…which is exactly the look I was going for with the LL vs the XL. Well worth it IMO.

Oh, no, you didn't scare me off at all. I just thought it'd be a bit airheaded to randomly spend over 100 dollars on a system that I basically already have. I might go ane for myself for Christmas or something.

Sorry to bother you over again, just I've got another question. Do you live in the Usa? If you practise, did you have any problem with the charging state of affairs? Did yous have to use the charger that came with the organisation? Do you know if chargers for a US 3DS volition work with a Japanese one? Thanks again.

Sorry to carp you over again, only I've got some other question. Practise you live in the U.s.a.? If y'all exercise, did y'all have any trouble with the charging situation? Did you have to use the charger that came with the organization? Exercise you know if chargers for a US 3DS will work with a Japanese one? Thanks again.
No worries at all. Yes, I'chiliad in the United states. I bought my LL on eBay from a guy in Japan. I purchased a US charger/cable just in case but the charger he sent had the standard 2 blade plug and it worked great. The US adapter I bought separately works great likewise so I got a fill-in. They can be had for < $ten if you're want the insurance https://world wide web.ebay.com/itm/383094468285

I don't know how much N3DS are going for in the Usa but isn't shipping from Japan like 30 bucks anyway?
I'd recommend checking places like FB market place instead of ebay for a 3DS.
